Tonight we have a party for one of our Young Adults, Marcel Stelter, a strapping lad that turns 23 in June, but decided late to serve a mission. He is going to the Munich-Austria Mission and reports next Tuesday in England to the MTC there. He speaks fluent German and English, was the Ward membership clerk and a pretty easy going fellow at 240#, 6' 3".
His mom is planning the event tonight and we looking to have some great socializing, memories of his childhood and some great food. Speaking of food, I was asked to provide a large bowl of my Internationally Renowned Seafood Pasta Salad...Oh yes, this was a challenge. Bottom line, the ingredients are NOT the same. Tastes, in even the most common foods are different. The mayo is different. The olives are not the same flavor. Even the eggs look and taste different (although I think a German chicken looks and pecks like any US chicken). How will we know if it is a hit? Depends on how much I have to bring back!
The pasta is pretty special, however, having located some Fußball Pasta(Marcel is a big Soccer fan), with the pasta in patterns of whistles, soccer balls, little soccer men and of course, little pasta championship trophy cups. The peas come from Leipzig (East Germany), the Olives from Milan, Italy, the imitation crab chunks from coastal France and what I found to be a very tasty salad shrimp from Greenland. It is all done except for the eatin' so we will watch how it goes down tonight. It will either be, "Hey, Elder Harrington, can you make your salad for the next High Priest Group Social?" or, "Hey, who left this pile of mac salad in the kitchen sink, anyone taking it home?"
