Called To Serve

We have mentioned in the past that our little Haupt Bahnhof (Main Train Station) here in Bremen is a happening place, a place people meet, travel through to many destinations throughout northern and northwest Germany, and activities galore.

Characters of all sorts, artsy types, student unrest and demonstrations, soccer fan crowds and exhibitions galore. This day was quiet while we waited for a few people to arrive for an activity in town We took a picture of Almut Meyer, the local town crier or Bahnhof shouter. He always carries with him a bottle of beer, or two, and greets people going in or out of the station. Harmless and innocent, he has been the homeless icon for the Bremen Station for many years. Here you can see him with his basic outfit from behind, but always a bright colored safety vest of orange, stocking cap, a colorful skirt and of course, any well dressed town Jester must wear nylon stockings.

The missionaries and a Chines student friend, Xiaodan Li (we have trouble saying his first name "Sjardan", so we just call him Bruce Lee which he loves, met at the Bahnhof and we walked downtown to the weekend music fest and had a little play on the local pig-piper statuettes. You have heard of the pied piper, but this is the pig-piper. All over the city.
